I found this story in the paper on the weekend:
FIRE officers from Mosman and Neutral Bay formed a guard of honour at the recent funeral of Rena Sailes, 97, of Mosman. Mrs Sailes was the daughter of Mosman's first fire chief Charlie Field... She was born at the first fire station, then located in Myagah Rd. At age 10, her family moved to a semi-detached house in the street where she lived her entire life... Mrs. Sailes died at Mosman Private Hospital, on February 17, after a short ilness. Her nephew Bruce field said Mrs. Sailes' death was also passing of an era, "the severing of a link with a past that stretched back to the days when the fire engines were horse drawn vehicles and getting to the fire meant hitching up the horses".
Mosman & Lower North Shore Daily, 06-03-2008, Ed: 1, Pg: 018.
Rena Sailes happens to be a woman I photographed on October 28, 2007 only a few months before her death.
The piece I posted here regarding the photo, "Up Close and Personal"
was in response to a question of how I actually got the shot. Now, I'm just honoured to have actually taken her photograph. -----------------------------------------------
Talk about perfect timing....
