Going Professional Seminar Update

I attended a seminar on the nuts and bolts of going professional as a photographer held by the Museum of Contemporary Art which I introduced here. This is the update I promised on what it was like.

To cut a long and boring story short, it sucked! It was a total waist of 2 hours and $15. Basically, you had three "modern" artists raving on (in that artistic way of talking which no one gets except themselves) about their own works and history from the 80's through to the present day. The amount of self promotion was excruciating.

The brochure said it was going to be about the how to's of submitting your work to galleries and magazines, which competitions to enter, whether to use an agent or gallery, blah, blah, blah. The only useful bit of rehashed business advice given was, it's going to be hard in the beginning, don't give up, get used to rejection, and don't expect too much in the form of income. Total waist of time if you ask me.
