Be Back Soon
I've decided to take "the ground breaking" step of choosing 01/01/10 as the date to change direction, navigate some new waters and throw fuel on the fire like there's no tomorrow.
I've decided to make some major changes both personally and professionally. However, to not jinx them, I'm not going to list them here, but reveal them one by one as they happen.
I'm going to focus on setting up some things and ironing out the details for the next couple of weeks at least, so I'll probably be out of touch here for that time.
I wish you all a wonderful 2010, surrounded by loved ones and filled with good health, happiness and prosperity.
Here's to the start of a fantastic decade, Happy New Year everybody!

Do Epic Shit
The graphic above was something random I found on the web. The reason I'm using it for this post is because I feel it somehow fits my hopes, not sure if that makes any sense but there it is.
It's officially the first day of Summer today (Southern hemisphere) and I've been contemplating some big changes on various fronts. I figured getting them started on the 1st of December instead of the usual 1st of January might produce some better results. However, I seem to be having problems getting the ball rolling. Is it procrastination, apprehension or just plain ass laziness? Honestly, I don't know. It might just be a cocktail of all three with a dash of 'what's the use'. Whatever the stumbling block is, I'm sure I'll find a way around, over or under it.
I can hear all the cliches regarding change, resolutions and fresh starts already. Why am I writing this here? Well, the discipline to both update this blog more regularly and to change it's course to something different (you'll slowly see what that is) is one of those changes.
So, with a little luck and I'm sure a shit load of harder work, frustrations and the occasional 'oh yeah!' (when something works out as planned) we head out into the unknown with plans of epic proportions.

The Premiere
Well it finally happened. It took over a year to get the ball rolling and have the planets align just right, but in the end it all worked out.
I shot my first red carpet premiere for Elevation Photos.
Covered the 2009 Sydney Film Festival and shot the likes of Hugo Weaving, John Woo, James Nesbitt, Miranda Otto and Teri Hatcher.
You can see some of the shots at the following links. I'll upload some more to my site later on.

Still Breathing
Once again I've been absent from here and a few other places for a while now. All for good reason though.
I've been working on my photography site to a) change the formatting b) add a backend to make updating easier c) update the photos and d) a hundred other bits and pieces of tweaking and fine tuning to the whole Kourosh Azar Internet Empire ;) As if anybody really gives a shit.
Well the site is now done and being updated daily with new and old photos. The new setup is similar to a photoblog / visual journal with a static "Current Portfolio Selection" of images. You can now subscribe to the main site as well, either via email or RSS to get updates whenever I upload anything new.

Happy New Year!
Another year has passed and the dawn of a new year is just around the corner. Sure 2008 could have been better, at times it could have been a lot better. However, as my ever optimistic aunt always says; "be positive."
I wish you all a very Happy New Year!!! I hope you have a year filled with health, happiness, love, and prosperity.
Looking back though, there are a few things that were made more clear to me. Those little nuggets I'll share, even if they do sound like cliches.
~ Be grateful for what you have.
~ If you have nothing nice to say just shut the fuck up.
~ Look after your health.
~ Time goes by faster as you get older. (no seriously, it does)
~ Argue your point twice, if the other person doesn't get it, don't waist your breath.
~ Entertain the fact that you might be wrong. (as unlikely as it might be)
~ There are things that depend on you and there are things that do not. Learn to
differentiate between the two.
~ Be passionate about something.
~ Smile as much as you can. Laughing is even better.
~ Don't be afraid to make a fool of yourself. It's a powerful ability.
~ Socialize and maintain close friendships. You will not realize the value of a close friendship until the day you need one and realize you have none.
~ Let others talk more while you listen.
~ Get dirty every now and then. (you can read this however you like ;-)
~ Make others laugh whenever you can.
~ Flirt as often as you can. (in a nice way though, not some sleazy way)
~ Compliment others, and be helpful.
~ Appreciate simple things more, whether it's: a moment in time, beautiful eyes, a landscape, a photograph, a really nice cup of coffee, a glance or smile from someone unexpected, nice food prepared well, softness in unexpected places, a scent, a feeling of contentment... the list is endless on this one...
~ Lastly, don't fret over the small stuff, life's too short.

Housekeeping

There is an Images page now where you can access all the galleries and the soon to come archive where you'll be able to search for and license images.

Revamp
If anyone has noticed this blog has changed it's looks a bit. The reason is a more major revamp of my photography site. I needed to make some minor changes to the photography site, and like most renovations it just kept on getting bigger and bigger.
There is now no Flash on the site, solving some viewing issues some people were having. All images are now viewed in a film strip format for easier navigation instead of the one image per page viewing. I figured this way it takes less time to view, you can go back and forth between images in a set with no delay, and it's so much easier for me to update and add new images. ;-) Lastly I tweaked the layout, fonts, and colours on both the blog and the photography site to a cleaner look that adds to the images (hopefully) and is a bit more uniform.
Hope you like the new look and format, let me know what you think, I'd appreciate the feedback...

The Year of the Rat
On February 7, 2008 The Chinese calendar year 4706 begins. It will be the year of the Rat. So here's to all of you born in the Year of the Rat, may it be a good one! Happy Chinese New Year!
Some things to do according to Chinese tradition to bring in more good luck and avoid the bad joo joo is below. Hey, we can all use a little more good joo joo:
Good luck
- Fu is a lucky word. Fu - is very easy to say and is one of the most popular Chinese characters used during Chinese New Year. Around the Chinese New Year, people often put up a poster with this word on it - upside down! It’s the only time when a Chinese word is posted upside down intentionally.
- Clean the house completely from top to bottom before New Year’s Day for good luck in the coming year.
- Opening windows and/or doors bring in the good luck of the New Year.
- Switching on the lights for the night is considered good luck and ’scares away’ ghosts and spirits of misfortune.
- Eat sweets to make sure you have a “sweet” year.
- Some believe that what happens on the first day of the New Year reflects the rest of the year to come. Asians will often gamble at the beginning of the year, hoping to get luck and prosperity.
- Wear a new pair of slippers that is bought before the New Year which means to step on the people who gossip about you.
- The night before the New Year, bath in pomelo leaves and you will be healthy for the rest of the upcoming year.
Bad Luck
- Buying a pair of shoes is considered bad luck because the word “shoes” is a homophone for “rough” in Cantonese, or “evil” in Mandarin.
- Buying a pair of pants is considered bad luck because the word “pants” is a homophone for “bitter” in Cantonese. Although some look at it positive as ‘pants’ in Cantonese is also a homophone for the word for “wealth”.
- Washing your hair could mean washing away one’s own luck, but modern hygienic concerns take precedence over this tradition.
- Sweeping the floor is usually forbidden on the first day because it will sweep away the good fortune and luck.
- Buying books is bad luck because the word for “book” is a homonym to the word “lose”.
- Avoid clothes in black and white, as black is a symbol of bad luck, and white is a traditional funeral colour.

Changing of the Guard
I'm so not a political person. In fact, I hate politics and this isn't a political blog. However, I thought that this was worth the post.
On the 24th of November, 2007 Australia had it's federal election and the Liberal Prime Minister of 12 years, John Howard, was replaced by the Labour candidate Kevin Rudd. Now I know he won by a landslide, but that doesn't mean it was the best thing for the country.
I know many would not agree with me but hey, that's fine, this is my opinion and you're welcome to it.
I don't think it was time to change the government just for the sake of change. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. However, it has been changed, and now we have to see what happens...
Personally, I don't see a bright future or the level of prosperity our economy has seen in the past twelve years.
Kevin Rudd will soon be moving into his new crib at Kirribilli House (for the Iranians out there, yes it's actually called Kirri-Billi-House) and will begin to implement his six point plan which is outlined below. All I can say is, we will see...
KEVIN RUDD'S PLAN FOR AUSTRALIA'S FUTURE.
1. An education revolution
My goal is for Australia to be the best educated nation in the world. We need an education revolution that starts at pre-school, includes state-of-the-art trades training centres in every Australian secondary school and flows through to TAFE and university.
2. A national plan to fix our hospitals
I will end the buck passing between Canberra and the States by investing $2 billion to take pressure off emergency departments and reduce waiting lists. If States don’t cooperate I’ll seek a mandate for the Commonwealth to take over delivery of health care services.
3. Decisive action on climate change and water
I will ratify Kyoto, set emissions targets, support clean coal technology, renewable resources like solar and wind power. I’ll also act to help secure our water supplies.
4. Balance and fairness in the workplace
I support balance and fairness in the workplace. I will get rid of the unfair WorkChoices laws and AWAs. Our unfair dismissal laws will provide special protections for small business.
5. Maintaining our national security
I will work with our allies and neighbours to strengthen Australia’s national security. I will negotiate the phased withdrawal of our combat troops from Iraq in consultation with our allies.
6. A strong economy that delivers for working families
I’m an economic conservative committed to budget surpluses and maintaining the independence of the Reserve Bank – all designed to put downward pressure on interest rates. I will keep the economy strong by investing in skills and infrastructure. I’ll also make sure our economy delivers for working families with policies on housing affordability and the cost of living.
