James Nachtwey's TEDPrize
In 2007 photojournalist James Nachtwey (more about James here), considered to be one of the greatest war photographers of recent times, spoke at TED. You can see his TEDTalk video below.
If you can't see the video in your RSS feed or email subscription, just use this link.
James was one of three to win the 2007 TEDPrize which gave him $100,000 and the resources of the TED community to grant him a "wish" to change the world. James' wish was:
"I'm working on a story that the world needs to know about. I wish for you to help me break it in a way that provides spectacular proof of the power of news photography in the digital age."
On October 3rd the story breaks all around the world. See here for local dates and times at locations near you. If you live in Australia you're going to have to be lucky enough to be in Melbourne's Federation Square at 09:50 on October 4th. -----------------------------------------------

C'etait un Rendez - Vous
If you can't see the video in your RSS feed, just use this link.
The translated title is: "It Was an Appointment". Shot by Claude Lelouch in 1976 it was one of the most controversial short films of the time. Lelouch was later arrested and released with no charge for showing the film, not actually filming it.
It's a fast paced driver's point of view film in a 275GTB Ferrari through the streets of Paris in the early hours of the morning. Reaching speeds of 140 mph Lelouch used a Mercedes 450SEL and later dubbed the Ferrari sounds. Three other people were in the car with him during filming.
Here is the making of video where Lelouch is interviewed in 2006.

Brian Cox, the Large Hadron Collider, the ATLAS Experiment and the Universe
A fascinating video about the universe and what everything is made of. It's kind of related to the one I posted earlier on String Theory. I admit it's a bit geeky, but if you really think about what this guy is talking about and what the ATLAS Experiment is trying to achieve at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, it really is kind of cool.

String Theory by Brian Greene
Ever wonder about the Universe, parallel worlds, other dimensions and the like? Well, check out this TED Talk on String Theory, it'll either answer a few questions for you or just create a whole bunch more.
In clear, nontechnical language, string theorist Brian Greene explains how our understanding of the universe has evolved from Einstein's notions of gravity and space-time to superstring theory, where minuscule strands of energy vibrating in 11 dimensions create every particle and force in the universe. (This mind-bending theory may soon be put to the test at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva.)

Last Lecture of Randy Pausch
Sometimes when we're neck deep in self pity, complaining about the most insignificant things, and thinking that our problems are insurmountable, we reach a point where we need a good kick in the ass to snap us back to reality. This is one of those ass kickings we should all have. Take 11 minutes out of your day and watch this video, you will not regret it.
Randy Pausch is a virtual reality pioneer, human-computer interaction researcher, co-founder of Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center, and creator of the Alice software project. This father of three will be dying in a few weeks. The following video is of a "Last Lecture" that he gave.

Theo Jansen - Creating Creatures
I had heard of this artist a while back and thought his work was really interesting. I did a little research and here's what I dug up on him. He's even done a talk at TED.
Dutch artist Theo Jansen has been working for 16 years to create sculptures that move on their own in eerily lifelike ways. Each generation of his "Strandbeests" is subject to the forces of evolution, with successful forms moving forward into new designs. Jansen's vision and long-term commitment to his wooden menagerie is as fascinating to observe as the beasts themselves.
His newest creatures walk without assistance on the beaches of Holland, powered by wind, captured by gossamer wings that flap and pump air into old lemonade bottles that in turn power the creatures' many plastic spindly legs. The walking sculptures look alive as they move, each leg articulating in such a way that the body is steady and level. They even incorporate primitive logic gates that are used to reverse the machine’s direction if it senses dangerous water or loose sand where it might get stuck.

Improv Everywhere
Found this great web site called Improv Everywhere. According to them it's:
Improv Everywhere causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. They are a 'prank collective' where they'll get a bunch of people, 'agents' as they call them, and organise an improvised prank.
This is the link to all their videos on You Tube.
Here is one called "Grand Central Frozen" where 207 people stand frozen for 5 minutes in Grand Central Station in New York.
